Day 1: Arrival in Paro – Gateway to Bhutan

      Activities:

o   Land at Paro International Airport, where you’ll be greeted with views of the Himalayan peaks.

o   Orientation and introduction by your local guide.

o   Visit the National Museum of Bhutan, housed in a historic watchtower, to gain insight into the country’s rich culture and history.

o   Stroll through Paro Town, known for its charming streets and traditional architecture.

      Accommodation: Boutique hotel with mountain views.

 

Day 2: Paro – Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang)

      Activities:

o   Morning hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliff at 3,120 meters.

o   Enjoy tea at a midway viewpoint with stunning views of the monastery.

o   Return to Paro for a leisurely afternoon exploring traditional Bhutanese crafts at local shops.

      Unique Experience: Participate in a private prayer ceremony at a small, local temple.

      Accommodation: Same as Day 1.

 

Day 3: Journey to Thimphu – Bhutan’s Capital City

      Travel: 1.5-hour scenic drive from Paro to Thimphu.

      Activities:

o   Visit the Buddha Dordenma, one of the world’s largest Buddha statues, offering panoramic views of the valley.

o   Explore the Folk Heritage Museum, showcasing traditional rural Bhutanese life.

o   Evening stroll through Centenary Farmers’ Market (if traveling Thursday-Sunday) for a taste of local produce and snacks.

      Accommodation: Luxury lodge in Thimphu.

 

Day 4: Thimphu – Culture and Craftsmanship

      Activities:

o   Visit the Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress and monastery that serves as Bhutan’s seat of government.

o   Tour the Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students learn Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts and crafts.

o   Explore the National Textile Museum to understand Bhutan’s intricate weaving traditions.

      Unique Experience: Enjoy a private Bhutanese cooking class, learning to make ema datshi (chili cheese) and other local dishes.

      Accommodation: Same as Day 3.

 

Day 5: Thimphu to Punakha – Valleys and Monasteries

      Travel: 3-hour drive via the Dochula Pass (3,100 meters), offering panoramic views of the Himalayas.

      Activities:

o   Visit the Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the “Fertility Temple,” a site of spiritual blessings.

o   Explore the Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece at the confluence of two rivers.

o   Evening walk through the lush Punakha Valley, surrounded by rice paddies.

      Accommodation: Riverside eco-lodge in Punakha.

 

Day 6: Punakha – Village Exploration and Adventure

      Activities:

o   Hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a hilltop stupa offering incredible valley views.

o   Visit a nearby village to learn about traditional Bhutanese farming practices and lifestyles.

o   Enjoy rafting or kayaking on the calm sections of the Mo Chhu River.

      Accommodation: Same as Day 5.

 

Day 7: Journey to Phobjikha Valley – The Hidden Gem

      Travel: 4-hour scenic drive to the Phobjikha Valley, a glacial valley and winter home to the endangered black-necked cranes.

      Activities:

o   Explore Gangtey Monastery, perched on a ridge overlooking the valley.

o   Walk the Gangtey Nature Trail, a serene hike through forests and meadows.

o   Visit the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre to learn about these rare birds.

      Accommodation: Cozy lodge in the valley.

 

Day 8: Phobjikha Valley – Peace and Reflection

      Activities:

o   Spend a tranquil day exploring the valley’s pristine landscapes.

o   Visit local villages to meet farmers and craftspeople.

o   Optional: Attend a meditation session guided by a monk at a local monastery.

      Unique Experience: Learn traditional Bhutanese archery, the national sport, from a local expert.

      Accommodation: Same as Day 7.

 

Day 9: Return to Paro – Evening at Leisure

      Travel: 6-hour drive back to Paro with stops for photography and short hikes.

      Activities:

o   Spend the evening at leisure, reflecting on your journey.

o   Optional visit to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples.

      Accommodation: Boutique hotel in Paro.

 

Day 10: Departure from Bhutan

      Activities:

o   Enjoy a relaxed breakfast with a view before your departure.

o   Private transfer to Paro International Airport for your flight home.

      Unique Touch: Receive a small, locally made souvenir from your guide as a memento of your Bhutan adventure.
